Changes coming to Worcester County Library…

We have exciting news to share – the public libraries on the Eastern Shore of Maryland are joining together to create a new shore catalog! This means that library users will have access to an online catalog that includes the collections of the 8 libraries on the Eastern Shore (Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester Counties). The new catalog will be mobile friendly and searching for library materials and placing holds will be easier and more efficient. Our digital library (E-books, downloadable music, and movies) will be searchable within the library catalog as well.

On Wednesday, August 9, the Berlin, Ocean Pines, and Pocomoke Branch Libraries will be closed so library staff may participate in new catalog training. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Two Worcester County Library branches, Ocean City and Snow Hill will be open from 1 - 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9 and book drops at all five library locations will be available.

Important Information:
  • Beginning August 1, library materials cannot be placed on hold. Libraries throughout Maryland's Eastern Shore will not be able to request or receive interlibrary loan materials while information is transferred to the new system. We expect this feature to be reinstated by August 23.

  • No library materials will be due between August 9 and August 23. After August 18, library cardholders will be asked to verify information on their accounts to make certain data was transferred successfully.

  • If you currently use the “Reading History” feature, please email yourself your list before August 9 as that information will not transfer. Please ask library staff for assistance if you need any help. Directions are listed below.

  • From August 10 - 16, members will not be able to search the catalog, library staff will be unable to check-in items, and no new library cards will be created. Please make sure to bring your library card with you because library staff will not be able to search for members by name.

  • From August 10 – 16, access to DVDs will be limited; only 5 DVDs will be checked out per card.

Library patrons with valid accounts will be able to access online databases and downloadable media via the library website, WorcesterLibrary.org. Please continue to visit the library and borrow currently available materials during the transition phase. Thank you in advance for your patience during this transition! Please contact your branch if you have any questions.

How to Export “Reading History” List:
  • Navigate to http://www.WorcesterLibrary.org
  • Log into your library account using your name and library card number (found on the back of your card).
  • On right hand side of page, click Reading History button.
  • Next, click the "Export List" button.
  • At the top of the screen, fill out the two sections: “Format of List” and “Send List To.” (Brief Display will send title, author, and publisher information.)
  • Lastly, click submit.

Reading History information will not transfer to Polaris, our new library catalog. Users of this feature should email themselves their list by August 9, 2017.
