  • Eye Witness Observations and Video Recordings of Criminal Events: A One Maryland One Book Program
    Wednesday, September 28 - 2:00 pm

    Location: Ocean Pines Branch
Research in psychology has long questioned the accuracy of eye witness accounts of criminal acts. As video recordings of these events have become more common, particularly events involving the use of force by police officers, new questions have been raised about how accurately individuals interpret these events. In the book All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brian Kiely, a violent altercation involving a teenager and a police officer is videotaped and viewed by countless individuals. The interpretations of the event may not always coincide with the eyewitness accounts of those that were actually there that day. This presentation provides connections between research in psychology on this topic as well as specific details described in the fictional novel. This presentation is facilitated by Dr.Lance Garmon of Salisbury University and funded in part by a grant through the Maryland Humanities Council.
