“Violin and Cello Duos from the 17th to 20th Centuries”
Wednesday, April 23, 2014 - 7 pm
Location: Ocean Pines Branch
Performance by Jeffrey Schoyen and Sachiho Murasugi
Jeffrey Schoyen is an active chamber musician and recitalist, and has given concerts throughout the United States, Germany, Mexico, Spain, and Ecuador. Dr. Schoyen has extensive orchestral experience and has been a member of the Opera Orchestra of New York, Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and Principal Cellist of the Filarmonica del Bajio in Mexico. Currently he is an Associate Professor at Salisbury University where he teaches cello and bass, and conducts the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra.
Sachiho Murasugi, violin, has performed extensively as a professional orchestral and chamber musician. As a chamber musician she has performed throughout the United States, Mexico and Spain. She is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and holds a doctorate from the Ohio State University. Currently, she is on the music faculty at Salisbury University where she teaches upper strings and serves as concertmaster of the Salisbury Symphony.

Tom Dempsey, member of the Sussex County Genealogy Society, helps you to find your way around the block. He will be available from 10 am to 12 noon to assist you. This is a “drop in” session and no registration is required.

Remembering the Holocaust

In the United States, Holocaust Remembrance Day is a day that has been set aside for remembering the victims of the Holocaust and for reminding Americans what can happen to civilized people when bigotry, hatred, and indifference go unchecked. The United States Holocaust Memorial Council, created by an act of Congress in 1980, was mandated to lead the nation in civic commemorations and to encourage appropriate Remembrance observances. Come and hear Deborah Batiste, Project Director of Echoes and Reflections, the premier Holocaust Education program of the Anti Defamation League, the USC Shoah Foundation and Yad Vashem discuss Jewish Resistance and hear the Visual History testimonies of Holocaust survivors Helen Fagen and Ruth Brand describe in great detain how they resisted their "captors."

Tri-State Bird Rescue

The staff and volunteers are trained to deal with anything from minor illness and injury to major trauma. Learn about the efforts and accomplishments of the Tri-State Bird Rescue, their rehabilitation center and the many little lives they have saved.

Soap Making

Come learn the ancient art of soap making with two complete demonstrations of hot and cold processed soaps. Participants will receive recipes and instructions for using soap nuts, making hard bar soaps, and laundry detergent. Additives such as clay, seeds, herbs, and essential oils to bar soaps will be discussed. Instructions will be given to make home made lye. Making soap is easy and cost-effective!

Dutch Apple Dinner Theater - “Hairspray: the Musical”

Join us as we head to Amish County to the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater for lunch and a show. Hairspray the musical is a masterpiece in musical theater. The songs include 1960s-style dance music and "downtown" rhythm and blues. In 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland, plump teenager Tracy Turnblad's dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance program. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight. She then launches a campaign to integrate the show. Tickets are $90.00 and may be purchased at the Ocean Pines Branch of the Worcester County Library or by calling Lisa Outten Stant at 410-632-3970. Buses leave the from behind the Post Office in Snow Hill at 6:30 am and from the Ocean Pines Library at 7 am. This trip is sponsored by the Worcester County Library Foundation. Seating is limited. These are advanced ticket sales.
