Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Worcester County Library is to promote reading, thinking, learning, and the enjoyment of the arts.

To Get a Library Card

If you live, work, go to school or own property in Worcester County you are eligible for a free library card. Young people, under 18 years old, must have a parent's or guardian's signature to obtain a card. Please bring identification or verification of residency. Cards are valid for three years and may be used at all public libraries throughout Maryland. If you do not have a library card you may register for a temporary online registration number. Your temporary number will authenticate access to many of the library's electronic databases and allow you to place holds on library materials. Please click here for details.

Circulation of Library Materials

Materials circulate for up to three weeks, and may be renewed once. Patrons may not renew books on reserve, nor items loaned from libraries other than Worcester County. To renew, either go to the Worcester County Library On-line Catalog Web page and select the button "View Record Renew Books", or call the branch from which the item(s) circulated. It is necessary to know the title, author's last name, and due date.

To reserve material, either go to the Worcester County Library On-line Catalog Web page and search for the material you want and then click the Request button on the bottom of the screen, or ask a staff member for assistance. Reserved items must be picked up promptly.

DVDs and Videos circulate for a seven-day period. Films, projectors, screens and other items may circulate for different periods as needed. The date due will be noted on the item.

Overdue Library Materials

There is a 10 cents per day fine for books, magazines, records, CD's and other materials.

A fine of 10 cents a day is charged for overdue DVDs or videos.

Book drops at each branch are open 24 hours a day.

Honor System Books

Each branch has a collection of "Honor System" books, mainly paperback, that are available to the public. A library card is not required to check out these books. We accept paperback donations as well.

Volunteers

Volunteers play an integral part in providing service to the community. They perform a wide variety of tasks, from working at the circulation desk to aiding those researching their genealogy. Friends of the Library groups in Berlin, Ocean City and Ocean Pines offer much-needed financial support. Contact those branches for information on how to join.
