Worcester County Library Foundation

The people of Worcester County are increasingly turning to a valuable community resource they share in common - their public library. The Worcester County Library Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization which exists to support and enhance library service in this County.

The Worcester County Library Foundation can help the library to maintain and accelerate the momentum that has been building in recent years. The Foundation assists the library in presenting a wide range of interesting and educational events – from book and poetry discussions, to spirited exchanges about foreign policy, to cooking classes, to demonstrations of local arts and crafts. With your support, the Foundation helps the library to acquire extra copies of new, popular, and important books and helps the library to present fun and stimulating programs and activities for all ages.

Annual Membership Drive

The Worcester County Library Foundation is asking for your help in carrying out its important mission. You and your family members are invited to join the Foundation and support its effort to provide enhanced library services as well as cultural and educational programs. Klein Leister / John Staley Scholarship - applications due March 19, 2020

This $1,000 scholarship opportunity is open to all Worcester County public high school seniors who plan to attend a college or university within two years following graduation.  Funds will be sent to the financial aid office of the school at which the student enrolls and can be applied to tuition, room, board, books, fees, and any other charges.  Applications are due March 19, 2020.

Harriet Tubman and the UGRR
February 29, 2020 (Rain Date: March 28)

Celebrate her life and legacy with a tour along part of the Underground Railroad. Our stops will include: The Brodess Farm, Blackwater Refuge, Harriet Tubman Visitor Center and the Harriet Tubman Museum.

The bus will be leaving from the Berlin Wal-Mart at 7:30 am. We'll have lunch at the famous Suicide Bridge Restaurant! Your meal will be an amazing Crab Cake entree including vegetable, potato, dessert and a non-alcholic beverage.

Coming March 2020: NEA Big Read Grant "In the Heart of the Sea" by Nathaniel Philbrick

Worcester County Library Foundation is honored to have been selected as an NEA Big Read recipient.  Winner of the National Book Award for Nonfiction and on the New York Times bestseller list for 40 weeks, this “spellbinding” (Time) “page turner” (New York Times) tells the true story of the 19th-century whaleship Essex out of Nantucket that got rammed by one of the largest whales anyone had ever seen, the whale that inspired Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. But the story doesn’t end there…

  • Please join us for the kickoff event on March 14th at the Mar-Va Theatre and Performing Arts Center in Pocomoke, Maryland with 4 Show times of the movie version; 11 am, 2 pm, 5 pm, & 8 pm.
  • Discover the fate of the Essex through the free books available at all branches beginning early next year.
  • To complement the reading, the library will screen movies, introduce creative writing workshops, host book discussions, perform a reader’s theater from “Wreck of the Whaleship Essex,” offer readings from the Ocean City Life-Saving Logs and tours of the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum.
  • On April 1st at 7:00 pm keynote speaker and author Nathaniel Philbrick will discuss his book and the Big Read program.
  • On Saturday April 25th 32 of us will take a trip on the replica of the 1768 schooner SULTANA in Chestertown, MD.  Self-guided exploration and lunch to follow, ending the day with a tour of the Sultana Education Center.
